If you want to create that distinct first impression with your future employer, you must master the art of resume writing. Resumes are a marketing tool and the first piece of communication with a prospective employer. It talks about you, your achievements and your potentials. An employer usually takes 30 seconds to glance through your resume and decide whether to throw it away or give it a call. Therefore, it’s important to organize the information properly.

In that case, just trim your resume to the relevant details. That would make it more contemporary. No employer would ever be interested in knowing what you did 15 years back if that’s not relevant.

Next, follow a chronology of providing information. Categorize the information under clear, bold heads to enable better reading. Put the most positive and persuasive details at the beginning of your CV. This ensures sustained interest in your profile. In terms of your work experience, start with the most recent, then going backwards in time. Mention past awards or accolades if they are relevant to the job you’re applying for. Last but not the least, the language of your resume has to be fluid and logical. Don’t jump points and break the sequence. That robs the authenticity of your resume.
